Description

Small hand-sampled piece of welded tuff. This sample is about 170 million years old, made from ash deposits from a volcanic eruption. Volcanic rocks like this welded tuff make up the Moat Mountain range near North Conway. Collected by two well-trained geology students for the 2014 "Beyond Granite" exhibition at MWM. Part of a complete (or at least comprehensive) hand-sample collection of all the rocks of the White Mountains.
