Description

Enamel Bowl is blue with bird in a weathervane type formation. The birds appear to be black with an orange belly probably American Robins. Karl Drerup was born in Westphalia, Germany. He studied in Germany and Florence where he earned advanced degrees in Graphic Arts and Painting before moving to the Canary Islands for several years. The rise of fascism and war forced Karl and his wife Gertrude to flea to New York City. In New York Drerup took up his prefered medium of enameling and had pieces purchased by the Met. In 1945 he moved to Thornton, New Hampshire where he founded the Art Department at Plymouth State University. In 1986 he was named a Living Treasuere of New Hampshire. Drerup died in 2000 at the age of 96 years-old.
