Glass stereoview transparency. View of the Crawford House after it was rebuilt following a fire. A clearing, pond, and road are visible in the foreground. Image is faded.
Printed on the glass in gold lettering: on the left: "F. White, manufacturer of Stereoscopic Views, Lancaster, N.H."; on the bottom "Entered according to Act of Congress in the year 1859 by Luther White, in the Clerk's Office of the District Court of Vermont"; and on the right: "Distant View of the CRAWFORD HOUSE, Near White Mt. Notch, N.H." The photographer, Franklin White, 1813-1870, of Lancaster, NH issued his stereoscopic views on glass slides. He worked with his brother Luther White of Montpelier, VT, and was a contemporary of John P. Soule, Franklin Gage, and a mentor for the Kilburn Brothers.
The slide has been scanned twice in order to capture the detail of the transparency.Acquisition
