Exterior view of Dix House, the precursor to The Balsams hotel. Two women, one holding a baby, and two boys pose in wagon parked in the driveway leading to the hotel. Guests can be seen sitting and standing on the two floor balcony behind them. The woman is possibly the widow of the inn's builder, George Parsons. The photo mounting paper is stamped with the Centennial Photograph Co. Internation Exhibition logo; proprietors Edward L. Wilson and W. Irving Adams of Philadeplphia Pennsylvania.
