30 page printed booklet on the history of the Chocorua Peak House, written by Marion L. Nickerson and John A. Downs and printed in 1977.
Jim Liberty of Tamworth built the road and path on Mt. Chocorua; in the 1880s, David Knowles of Silver Lake purchased the Chocorua Mountain Road and Halfway House from Jim Liberty and built the three story Peak House in 1891. It was blown off the mountain in a severe wind storm in 1915. The Jim Liberty Cabin was later built on the site.
The booklet includes a copy of the Act to incorporate the Chocorua Mountain Road, photographs of Jim Liberty, the Halfway House, early advertisments, and photos of campers from the Pine Knoll Camp and Camp Anawan Girls Camp at the Peak House, and Mrs. Emma Nickerson and her children, who were the last to run the hotel.Collection
