The Foster and Muriel McCarl Coverlet Gallery, located in the bottom floor of the Fred Rogers Center at Saint Vincent College, is a nonprofit cultural organization that collects, preserves, interprets and disseminates the history of weaving and folk traditions in the Northeastern region of the United States. A love of American history led Foster McCarl and his wife Muriel, antique collectors from Beaver Falls, PA, to purchase their first historic coverlet in 1959. That began what has become one of the finest collections of American coverlets in the country. Their prized collection of over 300 antique American coverlets was gifted to Saint Vincent College in 2008 along with funds for the care and preservation of the coverlet collection. Since that time, the collection has expanded through transfers from the University of Maryland, the American Textile History Museum, and the donations of private individuals.
