Red, navy, and denim figured double weave coverlet; two panels joined by a center seam; self-fringe on three sides; floral border on sides; grapevine border on bottom; floral medallion centerfield pattern. Jay A. Van Vleck was born in New York c. 1827. He is listed as a 23-year-old weaver in Gallipolis, Gallia County in the 1850 Census. He may be related to coverlet weaver Peter Van Fleck [sic], who also wove in Gallipolis.
