Description

Red, navy, and green figured Beiderwand coverlet; applied fringe bottom; self-fringe on sides; fern border on bottom and leafy border on sides; centerfield pattern roses and buds. Henry Oberly (c. 1805-1874) is listed in the 1850 Census as a 45-year-old coverlet weaver in Womelsdorf, Berks County, Pennsylvania. Twenty years later, he is listed in the 1870 Census as a carpet weaver. Oberly used a turkey (sometimes identified as a peacock) as his corner block logo, accompanied by an inscription. Many of his coverlets are undated.
