Description

Navy and natural overshot coverlet with applied knotted fringe, part of which is missing from the bottom border. Two panels joined by a center seam; 75 x 87”. Pattern is a version of 'Star of Bethlehem' with straight draw orders. Belonged to Catherine Ann McLanahan Flory (1812-1867), daughter of Anna Funk Hammett and Thomas McLanahan of Waynesboro, Pennsylvania, who married in 1830 Daniel Flory (1808-1876) of Smithsburg, Maryland. The couple settled in Clear Spring, Maryland, and the coverlet was passed down through the family.
