Description

Dark navy and natural figured tied Beiderwand coverlet; two panels joined by a center seam; self-fringe and rose border on three sides; plume and fan centerfield pattern. Peter Uhl (born c. 1806 in Germany) worked in Portage County and Trumbull County, Ohio. He is listed as a farmer in the 1850 Census of Paris, Portage County. This centerfield pattern is a common one, woven by at least ten different weavers in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois.
