Centennial 1876 Jacquard Coverlet. Patented 17 August 1875 and also inscribed “Memorial Hall.” Power woven with full loom width, doubleweave. Cotton with wool weft in red, green and blue. Has a leaf vine and pendant flower borders with memorial hall in the middle; 84 x 81”.
Belonged to Eliza Ankeney Spickler Miller (1842-1901), daughter of Matilda Ankeney and David Spickler, who married in 1865 Edmund Greenbury Miller (1832-1885). He was a merchant in Clear Spring, Maryland and they lived on a farm at the northwest corner of St. Paul’s Road and the National Pike (Route 40) about three miles east of Clear Spring. Came down through the family to her granddaughter Mary Louise Miller Hoffman (1907-1987).Collection
