Description

Figured coverlet; undyed and blue cotton and red, blue, and green wool, tied double cloth (Beiderwand). Hemmed at top, fringed on sides and bottom. Central motif is of quilt-like blocks in horizontal bands. Some rows contain blocks framed in square and circle shapes. At the center of each square is sixteen-pointed flower; at the center of each circle is an eight-pointed star surrounded by eight smaller stars. The other rows consist of alternating sunflower-like flowers and a block of four joined leavles framed by a curving octagon pattern. Border has a rose bush motif. Corner blocks contain an eagle motif and the woven text.
