Description

Figured coverlet; undyed cotton and red wool, double cloth. Center seam joins two panels. Selvedges on both sides; top and bottom sewn together by turning both layers in towards one another and stitching. Central motif consists of four large rose medallions, each made up with four roses. Two smaller medallions containing two roses a piece are at the bottom of the coverlet. The ground of the center field has squiggly lines throughout. Framing the central motif is a chain of small crosses punctuated by diamond shaped medallions that have a floral leaf motif within. Border contains a rambling floral vine, with a heart in each corner that has a rose growing from the center. This is framed on the outer edge by a zigzag pattern; on top the border is separated from the cross and diamond edging of the center field by a repeating rectangular shape with tulips at each narrow end and filled with lines, leaves, and a central fleurette.
