Navy, Burnt Sienna & Prussian Blue Coverlet with two panels and good fringe; multi-shaft point twill coverlet with “checkerboard" or "window pane" pattern squares; 71" x 93". Circa 1825-1830.
Belonged to Elizabeth Shaulis Hauger (1813–1886) of Jefferson Township, Somerset County, Pennsylvania, who married in 1831 Isaac Hauger (1814-1903), a farmer and waggoner. Prior to the Civil War, the couple moved to the Stahlstown area where they owned a farm on the west side of Route 711 where the Monticue Grove flax scutching grounds are today. In 1904, the heirs sold the farm to Mrs. Elizabeth Monticue. The coverlet was passed down through the family to their oldest daughter Adaline Hager (1832-1886) who married William G. Irwin (1823-1880) who owned the Springhouse Farm (only the stone springhouse remains) along Route 381, and then passed through the family to their great granddaughter Louise Irwin (1914-1999) of Ligonier.Collection
