Description

Figured coverlet; undyed cotton and red and blue wool, tied double cloth (Beiderwand). Center seam joins two panels. Selvedges on both sides; hemmed top and bottom. Central motif consists of four rose medallions alternating with sixteen-pointed stars. Within each star is a rosette. Connecting the rose medallions and stars is a line of eight-pointed stars. Horizontal bands of red and blue accent the coverlet. Border is a scrolling chain of grapevine. Secondary border on outer edge is of eight-pointed stars.
