Description

Figured coverlet; undyed cotton and blue wool, double cloth. Center seam joins two panels. Selvedges on either side. Hemmed top, fringed bottom. Central motif consists of medallions of four stylized tulips alternating with other floral medallions and a star motif. Borders on sides contain two doves perched on a stylized tulip tree alternating with eagles and a stylized tree or floral arrangement. Borders on the top and bottom contain two chickens standing on an egg, two ovals in which the text is woven into, and two large leaves from a vine. (The leaves also resemble water lilies.) Secondary side borders differ from the top and bottom borders, with side borders having a tassel and swag motif with rosettes and top/bottom borders having a vine with small star-like flowers.
