Description

Blue, green, pink (originally red), and yellow figured Beiderwand coverlet; seamless; eagle and tree border on four sides; self-fringe on sides; applied fringe on bottom. Floral medallion centerfield pattern with small 8-point star at center. Hudson R. Williams (born c. 1809) was a clothier in a woolen factory. Some of his coverlets include “& Co.” following his name. His coverlets usually include triple letters “MMM” or “WWW” in the bottom border, but this one instead repeats a single letter “P.” The significance of these letters remains unclear.
