Red and natural figured tied Beiderwand coverlet; two panels joined by a center seam; self-fringe on three sides; fern and floral double border on three sides; compass and rose centerfield pattern.
Martin Hoke (c. 1802-1881) was born in Germany. He wove in Dover, York County, Pennsylvania from 1834 to 1842 and in York Borough from 1842 to 1847. This coverlet features doubled borders and a pattern that repeats four times across the centerfield. Hoke also wove the same pattern at a larger scale with a non-repeating border and corner block.Collection
