Description

Figured coverlet: undyed cotton and blue wool, double cloth. Coverlet has two panels joined by a central seam. Selvedges on both sides, hem at top and fringe on bottom. Central motif of floral medallions (four across, five lengthwise) consists of four lilies surrounded by a wreath of flowers and small eight-pointed stars, at the medallion's center is an elongated star formed by eight leaves. Separating the medallions are diamond shaped rosettes. This pattern is a variation of the "Double Lilies" and is usually referred to as "Frenchman's Fancy". The border runs along the bottom and sides and consists of two eagles separated by a tree. Secondary border runs along outer edge and contains a chain of diamond shapes.
