Description

Figured coverlet; undyed cotton and red wool., double cloth. Selvedges on both sides; hemmed top and bottom. Hems face opposite sides. The coverlet has a central motif that consists of a single circular floral and scroll medallion with an eight-pointed star at its center. The medaliion is surrounded by a wreath of scrolling vines. On each side of this central motif are a pair of eagles carrying a scroll, a pair of deer, a pair of deer, a pair of birds on a branch, and a building. On the outer edge a chain of scrolling vines links the buildings. A narrow floral border runs along all sides with a single floral motif in the bottom corners.
