Description

Figured coverlet; undyed and blue cotton and blue, red and green wool, tied double cloth (Beiderwand). Center seam joins two panels. Hemmed at top, fringed on three sides. Central motif consists of starburst medallions surrounded by a wreath of leaves alternating with diamond shaped floral medallions. Border on bottom contains birds and rose bushes; side borders have a chain of flowering vines accented by tiny eight-pointed stars and little bugs with antennas. Side borders are framed by a double chain of diamonds on top edge; a lattice on bottom edge.
