Description

Figured coverlet; undyed cotton and blue wool, double cloth. Center seam joins two panels. Selvedges on both sides; top hemmed, bottom fringed. Central motif consists of floral medallions and stars. Wreaths of flowers surround an eight-pointed star. These medallions alternate with smaller round jagged edge shapes. The larger stars in the coverlet are formed by four concentrically sized stars, (the outer star has sixteen points, the others all have eight). The stars alternate with small medallions of concentric circles. The light ground of the coverlet is, for the most part, dotted with the blue. Borders on top and bottom have a floral motif and contain bell flowers. On the sides the border is different, with weeping willows, small house, man and animal alternating with floral motif. At each corner there is a block containing a courthouse with a cupola and the date.
