Spinning wheel; vertical, bobbin/ flyer, treadle. Bracket-shaped table is supported by thee splayed legs. Two-part treadle is connected to the drive wheel by the footman. Spinning mechanism is supported by two vertical members. The rear vertical supports the footman and drive wheel and has a small cup with an ivory rim at top. The rear vertical also has a small turned knob with a hole through it. Inserted into the hole is a small reeling peg. The front vertical is shorter than the real vertical and supports a horizontal piece to which the distaff and water bowl are connected; it also holds the secondary wheel and cam; the horizontal piece holds the front support for the bobbin and spindle. The third vertical is connected by a spring to the rear vertical and moves the bobbin back and forth. Drive wheel has lead rim and six squared wooden spokes. Umbrella-style distaff is set in articulated arm at right; small water bowl is set in articulated arm at left. Secondary wheel is brass and has heart-shaped cam which moves bobbin back and forth on spindle so that yarn is wound evenly on bobbin. Turnings on legs.Collection
