Description

Figured coverlet; undyed cotton and blue wool, double cloth. Center seam joins two panels. Hemmed top, sides and bottom fringed. Central motif consists of several motifs that create a carpet-like pattern. Four large leaves connect in the center, somewhat forming the letter "H". In the center of the "H" there is a line of four flowers. The leaves connect with a star motif through a horizontal diamond pattern. There are two stars separated by a flower and joined vertically by the same diamond pattern. Another motif in the coverlet consists of a sunburst that has four acorns in its center. The sunburst is surrounded by a line of flowers forming an oval. Borders on the sides have wide bowls containing stylized flowers separated by a stylized floral tree. Bottom border is made up of an intricately stylized vine that is edged on the bottom by a geometric design. Corner blocks have nine checkerboard designs.
