Description

Figured coverlet; undyed cotton and black wool, double cloth. Selvedges on sides; hemmed at top and bottom. Central motif is a single circular floral and scroll medallion with an eight-pointed star. Medallion is surrounded by a chain of scrolls and vines. On each side around this central motif are a pair of eagles, a pair of reindeer, a pair of birds on a branch, and a building (possibly a church). Each eagle carries a scroll, and a chain of scrolls and leaves links the buildings. Smaller foliage motifs are interspersed throughout. A narrow stylized floral border is on all sides with a single highly stylized floral motif in each corner.
