Description

Figured coverlet; undyed cotton and red wool, double cloth. Center seam joins two panels. Selvedges on either side. Top edge bound, bottom hemmed. Central motif consists of two types of medallions. One is an elliptical floral medallion, with a tulip design on either side of an eight-pointed flower and a thistle with scroll leaves on the top and bottom. The other medallion is a diamond shaped leaf motif. The diamond design has a cross shaped center with a foliage design on the sides. A dotted field fills the areas between the designs. The border has a foliage motif with two large leaves in the shape of a V surrounded by smaller leaves. The border along the bottom is the same as the one which is on the sides, except that the word "Liberty" runs along the upper edge of the border. A narrow secondary border runs along the sides with a diamond enclosing the dot design.
