Description

Figured coverlet; undyed cotton and red and blue wool, tied double cloth (Beiderwand). Center seam joins two panels. Hemmed top, fringed three sides. The bottom fringe was woven separately with a woven band header and is attached by stitching. Central motif consists of medallions of four lilies alternating with sunbursts. Overall effect is striped. Within the red stripe are the sunbursts, while the blue stripe contains a small center sunburst surrounded by lilies. Borders on the sides and bottom have two facing birds with two roses between.
