Figured coverlet; undyed and blue cotton and red and blue wool, tied double cloth (Beiderwand). Hemmed top, fringed sides and bottom. Central motif is a repeated pattern of round medallions containing leaves thistle-like flowers. These medallions are connected by four intertwining tulips in an X pattern. Smaller round medallions of a star pattern alternate with the larger medallions. This star pattern is similar to a quilt design and the overall pattern is reminiscent of a Pennsylvania Dutch motif. The border that runs along the bottom consists of three urns with flowers and vines growing out of them; they do not connect. The side border is a repeated flower stem pattern, edged on the bottom by a lattice pattern. Corner blocks contain two trees flanking an urn of flowers and the woven text.Collection
