Welcome figures once stood on these Coast Salish lands to do what the artist is intending to accomplish today: to welcome, respect and protect everyone. According to the artist: “Creator is the barrier of life, representing our past, present and future. As an older mom, she has lived life, created life, and lives for the future. She makes choices she learned as a young person, knowing it is her job to protect the future for her grandchildren.” The underwater world depicted on her regalia is intended to bring awareness of the environmental issues affecting the Salish Sea. The Beginning of their transformation... it is believed that every Cedar tree knows who and what they will become, that Carvers are put here to help them finish their journey of transformation and from there they will stand and protect and welcome all whom are in their presence...
