Portrait of Dr. Nathaniel Pendleton. Dr. Nathaniel Pendleton was a physician in Gouldsboro, Maine. He was born 7 April 1803 at Islesboro, Maine, son of Rev. Joshua Pendleton (1781 - 1859) and Sarah/Sally Randall (1781 – 1863). The oldest of six children, four brothers and one sister. He married Eunice Grover, daughter of George W. and Lydia Stockbridge Grover, 7 April 1823 at Islesboro, Maine. They moved to Gouldsboro in the mid-1830's. Nathaniel and Eunice had fourteen children of whom three lived to adulthood. They adopted a son, Charles William, in 1841. In addition to his medical duties, Dr. Pendleton was actively involved in shipping and fishing businesses, owned several vessels including the Henrietta, Oolong, and Mary Jane, as well as serving as the Justice of the Peace and Post Master. Dr. Pendleton died 09 Apr 1877 in Gouldsboro. He is buried with his wife and children in Greenwood Cemetery, Winter Harbor, Maine.
