Context

Speedwell Farms was owned by T.N. Vail and closely associated with the Agricultural School he helped found at Lyndon Institute. This farm was situated north from the ridge where Vail Mansion stood. Speedwell Farms got its name from Speedwell Ironworks, now a historic site, at Speedwell Village on Speedwell Avenue (US Route 202) just north of Morristown, NJ. An uncle of T.N. Vail, Stephen Vail was the co-founder of Speedwell Ironworks. (also see Speedwell Sundial 2012.047.1 for an example of Speedwell Ironworks output).
