Description

Glazed white china female doll with black hair, parted in center and waved and curled at back. Wearing hand-crocheted red dress/cloak, cream underwear, and gold boots with blue bows. Arms held forward. Doll is named "Frozen Charlotte" from an American folk ballad, "Fair Charlotte," about a girl who refused to wear a coat on a sleigh ride for fear it would cover her beautiful dress. She subsequently froze to death. Small versions of the dolls, like this one, were also known as penny dolls because they often sold for a penny.
