PREFACE
At the earnest solicitation of many friends, this Hundred Years Almanack is prepared and published. It begins January 1st, 1868, and ends December, 1967 ; and with much other interesting matter, it contains many valuable Recipes, (any one of which is worth the price of the book,) which have stood the test of many trials.
The public may rely upon the correctness of all the calculations and the conjectures of the weather. It will be noticed that the observations are made upon the movements of the Planets, which form the Solar System, and the Planet that is nearest the (Earth at the time of the Vernal Equinox, March the 21st of each year, is said to govern the seasons for that year.
This book is a translation from a German work published in 1700, and the calculations altered and the book arranged to suit our computation of time. We have also the evidence of many old persons, that their experience proves the correctness of much information in regard "to the seasons, weather, &c, herein contained. It will be a valuable addition to every household, and will not be laid aside at the end of every year as valueless and useless.
We therefore submit the work to the generous Public, assuring them that they will find it'very useful and indispensable after a trial.
JOHN H. ZITTLE.
