Description

Brass shako plate for French-made chasseur uniforms issued to U.S. Regiments: 62nd and 83rd PA, 18th Mass. and 49th & 72nd N.Y. Plate has spread-winged eagle at top with shield on chest. Eagle has three arrows in one claw and olive branch in other. Leaves adorn both sides of the lower part of the plate below the eagle. Directly below the eagle is an oval shape with a hunting horn in it. Metal wire is at bottom for attaching to hat. Top attachment is broken off on back.
