Description

Wood, iron and string tomahawk made from slag at iron furnace at Shannondale. Iron is lashed to handle with heavy string. Crudely carved into handle is "ASS. 1928". Handle is slightly curved and has two small holes drilled in it. Sign with tomahawk says "This TOMAHAWK Made By .....JOHN ALGAR HEARD..... In Camp on Shenandoah River, August 1928, From Native Cedar and Charcoal Iron Waste From Colonial Furnace at Shannondale Springs." Tomahawk is 1556A and sign is 1556B.
