Description

Object is heavy bell shaped piece of cast iron on a wooden handle. Handle has two metal straps to hold the wood to the metal. Top of the piece comes out of the handle and is flattened and turned in a hook fashion. Piece may have been used as a weight on a scale, perhaps in a grist mill. According to a Facebook commenter, "Looks like an early grain mill masher. Commonly found near waterside mills. They didn't last long due to their heavy wear and tear. The right end of this seems well intact. The left side is missing a hinge that would connect it to the mill rig."
