Medal with bronze colored wreath around outside. Red and white ribbon above. Center of medal is red and white enameled motto and logo. Around white enameled ring are the words "STAND FAST OUR HERITAGE". In center is a red iron cross with white superimposed letters "UDC". On underside of lid of box is a handwritten note in brown ink "Presented by Lawson Botts Chapter, United Daughters of the Confederacy, to the Girl for the best essay on 'The Causes of the War Between The States.' ". On back of medal is "STERLING" and a pin for pinning to clothing.Acquisition
