ARC104Scope and Content
The collection deals primarily with the genealogy of the Lucas family, mostly researched and written by Mary Lillian Hayes Fisher (1877-1952).
Unlike the rest of the collection, one folder (Folder 1) contains six original early 19th century documents. Five are letters dating from 1810 to 1826. Three letters (LF2,3,4) dated May, June, and July, 1813, are from Edward Lucas to his wife Mary Lucas, written from three different camps while he was a soldier in the War of 1812. An 1810 letter (LF1) is a communication among members of the Clinkenbeard (also Clinkinbeard) family. The final letter (LF6), written in 1826 by Lucas Clinkinbeard, is two letters: one to Lewis Lucas (cousin) and one to Edward and Mary Lucas (uncle and aunt). The sixth document in Folder 1 is a list of names and birth dates (1802-1836) of 10 people with the surname Branson. Two of the 10 may be identified to an African American family. (Scans of these six documents are in images.)
