Scope and Content

Ledger of Dr. William Fontaine Alexander, 1845 -1855. Dr. Alexander and his family lived at Walnut Hill on Warm Springs to Alexandria Road. Leather-bound ledger contains names of Dr. Alexander's patients, the date and nature of treatment, the doctor's fees, and the patient's payment record; entries related to newspaper subscriptions and tolls paid; and entries concerning the medical treatment of enslaved African Americans.
