Small, bound notebook or diary with red-brown leather cover, overlayed on front and back cover with a wooden engraving. Engraving is textured to appear like a tree or natural wood, with an oval cut-out on the front and three-dimentional deer in a wooded setting inside the oval. A gold clasp is attached on the right side of the cover to hold the pages of the book shut. A leather holster is attached at the right to the back cover and holds a thin wooden pencil (missing lead).
Inscription on cover page reads: Interlaken (?) Aug 5, 1890. Susy Parker Christmas, 1890. E.S.M.Acquisition
