Upper photo: Jefferson County Jail built in 1874 after the original jail, erected in 1806 and where John Brown was imprisoned, was destroyed during the Civil War. (IMG665) Lower photo left: On the right, the U. S. Post Office under construction in April 1923 on the jail site. The man on the right standing on the floor is Beverly Douglas Taylor (father of James L. Taylor). The other men are unknown. Visible in the upper right corner are the Virginia Products building and a corner of the Sadler Building, both still standing in 2013. Also visible top center is the roofline of the Charles Town Hospital on Congress Street, today headquarters for American Public University System.
