According to "A History and Record of the Protestant Episcopal Church in the Diocese of West Virginia" by George W. Peterkin (Charleston, W.Va.: The Tribune Company, Printers, 1902), pp. 613-614, Christ Church was built in 1889. A Mrs. Boyd, mother of Vincent Boyd, "gave the land, and Mr. William D. Smith, Sr., of Smithfield, Wickliffe Parish, Va., gave the lumber," and several people assisted with sawing, carpentry, and painting, "so the chapel was built at a very small cost, in money ... with a considerable amount coming from Wickliffe Parish ...." The Wickliffe rector ministered to the Christ Church congregation.
According to Don Watts, the archives of the Protestant Episcopal Theological Seminary in Virginia (3737 Seminary Rd, Alexandria, VA 22304) contain parochial (annual) reports from Christ Church.Acquisition
