Description

Textile insignia patch. Embroidered red circle with embroidered red text inside reading "MINGO MILITIA" on square, crudely cut piece of solid black fabric. Likely refers to the militia organized in Mingo County, West Virginia, in response to the May 1921 coal mining labor disputes. From WVCulture.org: "The Mingo Militia, made up of coal company officials, strikebreakers, non-union, and anti-union men, promptly and enthusiastically enforced the provisions of martial law against miners."
