Harpers Ferry from its mid-19th century emergence as a site for picturesque, fine-arts views, to its early-20th century resuscitation as a site for picturesque postcards and commercial photographs." Contains presentations featuring a number of images of Harpers Ferry over 80+ years: 1859 and John Brown's Raid, railroads, Civil War and resulting ruins, post-war recovery and commerce, picturesque America, automobiles and tourism, panoramic photography, and devastating floods of the 20th century. Includes an essay on Walter Dittmeyer, Harpers Ferry pharmacist and photographer, and Haines Photo Co. and their panoramic photos of Harpers Ferry
