Resolution dated January 6, 1847, for Lt. George A. Porterfield for a presentation sword from the city of Richmond, Virginia. Includes a handwritten letter, dated February 22, 1847, to George A. Porterfield on the same document explaining the resolution. Swords were purchased and to be presented to "the Captains and Lieutenants of the Richmond Grays and Richmond Rangers," units raised for the Mexican War.
