"Shepherdstown, West Va., March 4th 1876" "Pay to the Order of Jacob Marker (?)" Five Hundred Dollars for Value Received and charge to account of John Waters, Georgetown" signed "Samuel M. Knott" and "L. W. Hoffenbager(?)" Affixed to front a green U.S. Inter. Rev. (Internal revenue) 2 cent Liberty issue of 1875 stamp with a Natl. Bank of Washington D.C. cancellation. On back are various endorsements plus records of cash received from S. M. Knott dated 21st Sept. 1876, Oct. 11 and Nov. 4.
