Four-page letter dated February 21, 1863, from Frederick E. Barnes "CAMP HAIGHT" Maryland Heights, Md, addressed to "Dear Teacher." Top of first page is an engraved scene of Harpers Ferry under which is written "BALTIMORE, SOLD BY J.W. BOND & CO" and "View of Harper's Ferry, together with Maryland and Virginia Heights."
Barnes comments on the quality of their camp, his disillusionment with the war, and hopes for being home soon. He numbers 13 points on the scene on page 1 and on page 4 names each point such as tower, hospital, pontoon bridge.
Barnes was a member of 6th Regiment New York Heavy Artillery, which was stationed in Harpers Ferry from late December 1862 to July 1863.
