Description

African American china doll with painted eyes and lips and hair in pigtails with pink ties. Probably made in Japan. Doll is dressed in blue dress with white apron, kerchief, and white nurse's style cap. Small piece of paper was pinned to waist of apron, with penciled handwriting: "I am here to give you your medicine". These dolls were given to Ms. Milton's nursing school class in the 1940s and reflect some elements of racist stereotypes. See note in the Media file.
