A Gothic building, the fourth church constructed on this site, completed in 1851; first church erected in 1817 by congregation of St. George's Chapel; served the congregation until 1848 when a new building was started; it burned later in the year. Another church was built immediately and consecrated in 1851; during the Civil War the building was badly damaged by Union soldiers and was later repaired.
