Description

A native of Charles Town, Edward H. Thornton entered the U.S. Army in November 1942 and achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant. The insignia on his overcoat indicate that he served in the 1st Engineer Special Brigade and the Red Ball Express. He was overseas for two of the three years he was in the U.S. Army. After the war, he returned to Jefferson County.
